Police Dog Handler Traumatises Teenager

The Police Dog handler ” Kayne ” who released the police dog onto Logan Douglas is known for his brutality antics within the BOP region. The Tauranga Police created a ” Crime Squad” to catch out burglars by prowling local neighbourhoods. During this ” crime squad peak operation ” a number of local teenagers were harassed and in some cases assaulted by Kayne, Police Dog Handler of Tauranga Police.

Read the article. There's a pretty awful picture of the puncture wounds.
I thought that police dogs were better trained than that. If they were trained correctly, the dog should release on command.

Aside from the article linked to here, do we have any comment from the police about this matter Natalie?
I tried to email the teenager but his address wasn't recognised.
As for police dogs being trained properly, do you recall the footage of the Sydney riots and the difficulty police had pulling their dogs off? Seems obedience isn't as important as bite.
    Not so much difference between police and fighting dogs at the end of the day except one is 'trained' to bite people and the other is habituated to biting dogs. Perhaps police need to learn to use a breaking stick. (-;

    Thanks Karen for your thoughts.

Police dogs, as much as they do help find the "assumed criminal" (I don't want to guilt or innocence), they ARE mistreated.

I wanted to find the reference to the article about the numbers... and someone laid a complaint against police dog handlers, but my troll through my own blog, well.. I couldn't find it!

but, here are some interesting ones that I found. And those are the ones that make the media!!

The Police Association says the number of people being bitten by police dogs reflects the number of violent incidents police are attending. About 600 people are receiving bites from police dogs each year. Our newsroom obtained that figure under The Official Information Act.

An Otaki policeman spirited his bull mastiff dog away after being told it could be destroyed for twice savaging a neighbour's pet.

Barbara Growcott is angry that the officer was able to save the dog's life by sending it back to its breeders – despite attacks that nearly killed her yellow labrador Blue.

    Thanks Natalie.

You may remember Ian Robinson who was the vet on the regular 530pm show "5:30 live with Jude". He appeared several times with his Pit Bull Terrier Buster, who was the only dog who behaved and didn't scrap with the other dogs on the tv show's Xmas party, he told me.
Sadly, Ian never had the gumption to speak up and tell viewers that Buster (a dog he got through me) was actually a genuine Pit Bulldog.

We fell out when Ian was asked on a TV doco what Buster was - after he promised to help the breed's rep and was given the dog by his breeder at no charge on that understanding - and he replied "a bull cross".
I emailed him, furious at his betrayal, and asked if that was any relation to bulls**t.

Ian was also the police dog vet at Sth Auckland. He told me that their favourite stud dog was so dangerous he had to be brought into the clinic muzzled, with Ian safely atop the exam table, until the dog was brought under control by being hog-tied.

Pity the truth is still so politically incorrect in our country.
