This whole question of breed specific regulation is mired in hysteria, conveniently maintained by politicians who are keen to be seen to be doing 'something'.

It makes a dog 'guilty' from birth to death.

The movement from 'dangerous' to 'menacing' is legislative creep.

The range of extra measures 'by regulation' is asking for trouble.

addition of breeds, mandatory destruction of dogs, compulsory roundups, destruction of unregistered dogs.. who the hell do these people think they are..

We cant smack our kids and can be punished for canine cruelty.. but the state sanctioned stuff where police can aim guns at our children and our dogs can be 'disposed of' for being reported as chasing a rabbit or scaring the chooks is getting difficult to bear.

600,000 dogs didnt bother anyone today. We are on a slippery slope. This law does nothing for liesh aggression or dog-dog aggression often mistaken behavours for a 'risky' dog.

Dogs are becoming more regulated than guns. politicians are talking up the language of terror, Media is turning the evening news into reality tv. (repeated images of Carolina Anderson for example)

On one hand we have Police advising folk who have been burgled 'to get a mean dog' (I thnk they mean a guardian dog) while any such dog then becomes a liability with ownership equating to 'must be hiding something'.

Sad sad policy development. My fear is, as with micro-chipping... it will come to pass and accomplish nothing.

Call your MP. Tell them to reign in this perverse knee-jerk reaction to exception. Tell them that this fearmongering and the keeping dogs behind high fences and on short leads is producing the very unsocialised dogs that the law is setting out to solve.

    Say something..
